Oral hygiene is a very important part of our lives. Having a beautiful, healthy smile is the goal of every single person, but that goal is sometimes hard to reach, especially when it comes to keeping your teeth white. Our teeth turn yellow for a number of reasons, but in most cases, it’s because of aging and having bad habits like smoking and eating foods that are known to cause staining. If you brush and floss your teeth regularly and still have yellow stains, the whitening procedure will probably solve your problem.
But what if you don’t have the money to do it? Luckily, there are natural ways to whiten teeth, without even having to step into the dentist’s office. Keep in mind that these methods are not as effective as the ones at done by a professional and it will take more time before you see the results.
Coconut Oil Rinse
First on our list is a procedure called coconut oil pulling. It might sound insane – how can rinsing your teeth with coconut oil whiten them in any way? – but trust us, it works. The idea is that lauric acid in coconut oil can clean your teeth of bacteria that are the cause of them turning yellow. This procedure might be unpleasant for some people because coconut oil is no ice-cream, but if you can get around the bad taste, you will see the results in no time.
The process is pretty straightforward; you take one tablespoon of coconut oil every time you wake up and rinse your teeth with it. You can either soften the oil, then put it in your mouth or you can take it in hard form and soften it in the process. Swish and rub oil with your tongue around your teeth for about 10 minutes and then spit it out. After that rinse, wash your teeth.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Next one is apple cider vinegar. This is a bit more believable procedure because most people know that the apple cider vinegar works as a teeth and gum cleanser, so removing any stains on your teeth won’t be much of a problem. This procedure is especially effective for the removal of coffee and cigarette stains. In some cases, apple cider vinegar can whiten your teeth just as the commercial products. The reason why it works is that acetic acid, potassium, probiotics and other components that can be found in apple cider vinegar kill off germs that cause your teeth to go yellow and create space for other good bacteria in your mouth.
Use your finger to rub vinegar on your teeth and do so for about one minute. After that rinse and wash your teeth. Be consistent when using this procedure. You will need at least a month of regular use of apple cider vinegar to see the changes. Also, don’t forget that white teeth are not the only part of a beautiful smile. So, if you have crooked teeth or bad bite, take care of that first with your orthodontist, and then you can proceed with the whitening process.
Lastly, we have lemon peels – some even say orange peels, but we can’t guarantee for them. The idea is the same as with apple cider vinegar. Lemon contains acids that are beneficial to your overall organism, so by rinsing your teeth with lemon peels, you will remove bad bacteria and add good ones. As we said, lemons are healthy overall, so don’t worry about doing any damage to your body. However, because we are talking about strong acids just to be safe, rinse your mouth thoroughly after you are finished. The procedure is the same as with apple vinegar, rub with your finger for a minute and then spit it out.
In our opinion, these are the best three ways for naturally whitening your teeth. As you can see, they are not too complicated and pose no risk to your health. So if you ever wanted to try one of these out, now is the time. Just remember to be consistent, and you will surely see the results.
