5 Reasons Why Home Workouts are Better Than Going to the Gym

February 11, 2022

When people want to exercise and become stronger, they typically go to the gym. The gym is often regarded as the traditional place to work out. It has all the exercise equipment people need to get fit, plus there are trainers and other staff members to answer questions.

However, not everyone can afford or find time in their busy schedules to go to the gym every day. There are also alternatives for those who want to work out but don’t want to go to the gym for some reason. Home workouts, for example, have been quite popular in recent years thanks to the proliferation of online exercise videos.

Here are 5 reasons why home workouts are better than going to the gym:

You save money

Gym memberships cost anywhere from $20-$200 per month depending on location and amenities available. With this money, you can buy plenty of yoga pants and top-quality exercise equipment for your home that will last ten years or more! Plus if you buy equipment like weights, they pay for themselves after just one year of use because you no longer have to pay for gym entry fees.

You can wear your own clothes

Unlike going to the gym where you have very little time between entering and leaving, people who work out at home are able to relax and change into their own clothes. You can, for example, wear an oversized shirt no matter how ratty it looks. You can wear a plus-size crop top that you may not feel confident enough to put on in front of others. Plus performing exercises in your clothes is just more comfortable than wearing skintight outfits that don’t breathe.

You can even go to the bathroom and take a shower without worrying about someone waiting for you or having to leave immediately.

You Have More Privacy

Working out in a public place is intimidating for some people because they feel self-conscious about doing a new workout routine in front of others. If there’s no one else at home when you work out, you don’t have that concern or worry over judgmental eyes.

Gyms can be intimidating because it’s where people who are already-fit go to work out. And if you’re a beginner, it can be difficult to work out beside people who have been going there for years and look like they belong there.

People who are on the heavier side especially can feel out of place because of fear that they will be judged and made fun of.

Home workouts are also more geared toward shy and introverted people. Shyness is a quality that may seem undesirable to some but it can actually be an asset in many situations. If you’re the type of person who just doesn’t have the personality or need to social

No Waiting for Machines

There is nothing more annoying than going to the gym and having to wait for equipment like a treadmill, an elliptical machine, or a weight machine. If you work out at home, there are no such concerns because you’re the only person using the equipment; no one else will it if their imaginary friend comes over to use the treadmill.

You can go at your own pace. You can exercise as slow as you want or as fast. You can also take breaks when you need to without worrying about people waiting for you. You also don’t have to pause or alter your own routine because someone is using the machine you need or waiting for it.

You Can Listen to your Favorite Music

One of the best things about working out at home is that you get to exercise to your own choice of music. You don’t have to sacrifice listening to top-charting songs because someone has decided they need a classical-only playlist while exercising.

There’s no shame in playing your favorite music on your phone, computer or tablet. You can also create a workout playlist of your favorite songs that you will find motivating. When you have your favorite music pumping in the background it’s much easier to exercise for longer periods of time.

You also don’t have to worry about earphones falling out or hurting your ears thanks to the weight of headphones. Because you’re working out at home, you can just use regular headphones that won’t cause discomfort and bother you as you exercise.

Working out at home has many benefits. It’s less expensive, you can wear your own clothes and go to the bathroom without feeling uncomfortable or rushed, it doesn’t matter what shape you’re in because there are no judgmental eyes on you, and if someone is waiting for a machine that would be perfect for you-you don’t have to wait!
